Bègles is situated south-east of Bordeaux. At around 30,000 inhabitants, it boasts both the qualities of a small town and the benefits of being a part of the metropolis of Bordeaux. In that sense, the town of Bègles is a real “urban village” bordering the Garonne River that is in a constant state of flux: districts are being upgraded, companies developing, the city centre is being modernised and numerous local businesses are being set up.

As part of a building project for new residential homes, the area in the Rue de Paty has been completely redesigned and a communal traffic area created for joint use by cars, cyclists and pedestrians. To ensure a quiet, calmed zone, the road is a zigzag and there is a speed limit of 30 hm/h, as in the rest of the town.

For the lighting of this exterior area, Bègles city council selected the Line series of sustainable luminaires. Line’s design philosophy involves radically reducing the complexity of a luminaire’s form and integrating the optics as a vertical line. The slimline Line light columns blend perfectly into the urban surroundings and, at a height of six metres, the eight light columns are fitted with golden reflectors. Their precision reduces light scatter – and hence light pollution – to the minimum. With a warm colour temperature of 2700 Kelvin, they provide particularly cosy light while at the same taking the needs of sensitive animals that are active by night into consideration.
